The 1st Royal Forest Scout group is situated in the village of Parkend. A pleasant and thriving small village in the heart of the Forest. Once a thriving coal mining centre, the village is now a peaceful backwater surrounded by woodlands, one of which is the RSPB Nag’s Head Nature Reserve. There are delightful village pubs, ideal for spending a lazy summer’s afternoon. The parish of Parkend was founded in 1822, previous to which the area was part of the Royal Hunting Forest. The Group has been in existence since May 1950.
Beaver Lodge
Has a small campsite (60 places) in its grounds and is surrounded by forest which Scouts of all ages can explore. It is an ideal base from which to explore the surrounding area or to take part in any number of outdoor activities from Canoeing down the Wye to climbing at Symonds Yat, to cycling in the Forest of Dean along with many, many, more activities. It also is a base from which to experience the heritage of the local area with many castles close by as well as a heritage centre in near by Soudley.
